It is with great sadness that the Club has to report the death of Dr John Steeds MBE at the age of 92.
John Steeds played for the first team at Saracens when only 17 years of age and went on to win a blue for
Cambridge
University. His rugby career was interrupted by the war but he returned to play for Saracens and became the first player from the club to be selected for
England. He represented his country as hooker on five occasions between 1949 and 1950.
After moving to
Colchester in 1949, he went on to play for and coach the Colchester Rugby Club's First XV on many occasions.
He received an MBE for services to the community in 1986 and retired from his Colchester GP’s practice the following year.
May 22, 2009, 5:25 pmThe Senior Section are looking for a new keen individual to join the management team with specific responsibilities for the newly formed Saracens 3`s.
Please contact me for further information if you might be interested.
Many thanks,

Saracens U15 Girls win Bowl in County Sevens
May 19, 2009, 8:36 pmSaracens U15s Girls emulated the men's team on Sunday by winning the Herts Girls 7's Bowl competition. The girls with help from the Grasshoppers' trio of Chloe, Tilly and Siobhan beat West Oxon 25-0 in the final.
Sarries were drawn in a tough pool and the eventual winners of the Cup, Plate, Bowl and Shield all came from it. This is the 5th year the competition has been run and the 5th time the Saracens Girls have played in a final, but only the second time they have come back with a trophy.
Hannah and Penny made debuts for the U15's in the competition and also scored their debut tries along the way as did Sam. It was a fine squad performance with everybody playing an important part in getting to the final and everybody also getting pitch time in the final.
All that is except for Sophie who spent the night in hospital with broken ribs, following a tough pool game against the eventual Cup winners Paviors from Nottingham. We all wish her a speedy recovery.
